The fluid collisions: FLOW: Mixpoint

More examples of the uses of Houdini here in the work by Mixpoint. A mix of semi viscous streams of fluid particles colliding to one another. Lovely turned on by nice colors and aerial shots reminding us of cartography and the archipielagos.

Work by Mixpoint.

Flow is the film we’ve started mid-summer and have been working on whenever the commercial workload allowed us to. So despite being stretched over few months, the actual hands-on production time turned out to be a little more than one man-month. Houdini fluids were used to create the base elements: volumes and flow textures. These were later custom-processed with SOPs and VOPs to achieve the proper depth effects, generate various graphical elements and advect particles in the most controllable fashion. For the final look we relied on heavy AOVs-driven compositing in Fusion - that’s where the look has really been established and the picture assembled from the Mantra-rendered building blocks. Edited and graded in Resolve.
